On Tuesday, February 7, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) named Esteffany Calderon of the Mission Clubhouse, as its 2012 Citywide Charles Schwab Youth of the Year. Congratulations, Esteffany!! The announcement was made during the organization’s fourth annual Charles Schwab Youth of the Year Luncheon held at the St. Francis Hotel. Esteffany was selected from among seven Youth of the Year finalists each representing their respective Clubhouses.
This year’s Youth of the Year finalists included: Sasha Newman, Camp Mendocino; Joseph Armijo, Columbia Park Clubhouse; Cecelia Luna, Excelsior Clubhouse; Antonio Sanchez, Treasure Island Clubhouse; Ivana Carol, Visitacion Valley Clubhouse; Jacquelyn Fuller, Willie Mays Clubhouse. Since the fall, these remarkable young people have been formally mentored by coaches and have participated in an intensive series of workshops and activities to better develop their public speaking and essay writing skills.
Congratulations to all eight finalists!
The luncheon was attended by nearly 600 guests, including government officials Mayor Ed Lee; District Supervisors Malia Cohen, Jane Kim, Carmen Chu and Christina Olague; Mirian Saez; Police Chief Greg Suhr; Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White; Commander Mikali Ali; plus many key corporate sponsors like Charles Schwab and Visa.
