As one of the largest providers of youth services, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is in a unique position to impact our citys at-risk kids. Similarly, leaders of Bay Area corporations and community organizations play a critical role in shaping the future of San Francisco. Through numerous collaborations, we have developed powerful partnerships that significantly enhance quality programming for 1,200 kids the Clubs serve each day.
Our corporate and community leaders are essential to the growth and sustainability of this organization. We remain deeply grateful for their commitment and generosity in providing for San Franciscos at-risk children.
We are proud to have been selected as one of four Boys & Girls Clubs organizations nationwide to enter into a four-year partnership with Bank of America. Their generous commitment supports educational programs, including our unique Project Discover program, a tuition-free academic enrichment program for 3rd- 6th graders. In addition, Bank of America generously supports our student intern program, enabling us to bolster our Clubhouse staff during our busiest summer season.
Focused on serving our teen members, Gap Foundation has supported education, technology, and entrepreneurial programs over the years. Currently they are funding CareerLaunch, a state-of-the-art career exploration and mentoring program that was developed with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This program provides our teens with tools to make sound educational decisions, explore a variety of careers, and prepare to enter the working world. Coupled with Don Fishers extensive involvement with the Clubs, Gap Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs have created a lasting partnership.
The Guardsmen of San Francisco have supported Camp Mendocino's outdoor education programs for more than 58 years. By sponsoring "Camperships" each summer, the Guardsmen give more than 500 children the chance to escape the city to our 2,000-acre camp in the redwoods of Mendocino County. For many kids, Camp Mendocino represents their first trip beyond San Francisco.
Many Guardsmen have gone on to become Board Members of BGCSF.
Each year, Herman Miller brings more than 250 architects and designers together at our Columbia Park Clubhouse to make arts and crafts with our kids - an event known as WE CARE. In a gym that resembled a winter wonderland, nearly 300 youth representing all nine Clubhouses create more than 6,300 arts and crafts projects. They also wrap the crafts, so that they could be given as gifts to family and friends. To complement the holiday spirit of the event, Paula LeDuc Catering served festive fare to both kids and volunteers.
McKesson is the lead provider for our Health Initiative, a citywide program that provides health services and education to our kids. With McKesson Foundations strategic funding and knowledge, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco was able to not only launch this unique pilot program, but also draw on the expertise of the Foundations leadership.
For the 4th year, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is one of the beneficiaries of Macy's Thanks for Sharing promotion. Macy's generously donates a portion of each $25 enrollment fee earned during the holiday shopping season to four community organizations: The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign; Americas Second Harvest, The United Way, and Boys & Girls Clubs. All donations stay in the community where the enrollment donation was made and last year over $1.3 million was raised by this promotion.
Since 1922, the Rotary Club of San Francisco has been a mainstay of support for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. In recent years, the Rotary Club has focused its support on Camp Mendocino, donating funds over the past 10 years to build a new laundry cabin, install new water tanks and a water filtration system, a 100' long swinging bridge, a new camp office, and a new bathroom and shower facility for campers. Additionally, individual Rotarians have made countless contributions of time and money to better the lives of members of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.
