Get Involved

You have the power to make a difference! At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our goals are ambitious, but we know we cannot achieve them alone. We need and welcome the support of our community and caring people like you. Together, we can have a lasting impact on the lives of the children who need us most. There are more ways than one to make a difference:

Volunteer at a Clubhouse or Camp Mendocino

Volunteers are essential to our youth development programming and are highly valued in our Clubs and at Camp. We’re always looking for positive role models who can offer their energy, time, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of our youth. There are many ways to contribute based on your schedule and areas of interest. Learn More

Corporate Group Volunteering

Our Clubs welcome groups of volunteers from our corporate supporters and new community partners. We offer endless opportunities for volunteer groups to get involved and interact with our youth.

Corporate groups can participate in one-day beautification projects such as painting, gardening, organizing and cleaning.  Volunteer groups can also participate in existing Clubhouse activities such as getting involved in homework help, engaging in arts & crafts projects, and leading fun activities including carnivals and field day events.  We also encourage corporate groups of volunteers to speak to our teens about their careers and the paths that led them to where they are today.  Learn More.

Stay Informed

Sign up for our regular E-Updates to keep apprised of BGCSF news and opportunities to help.

Join a Community Advisory Committee

Each Clubhouse has a Community Advisory Committee, made up of parents, young members, and representatives from the local police department, schools, businesses, and community-based organizations. CAC’s provide support to the Clubhouse on a local level, serving as advocates for the Club throughout the community and working on specific projects that help move the Clubhouse forward. If you are interested in joining the CAC at any one of our nine Clubhouse locations, please call one of our nine Clubhouses and ask to speak with the Clubhouse Director.

Other

Be creative! Whether it’s holding an event that cultivates the next generation of local philanthropists, asking for contributions to the Club in lieu of birthday gifts, or galvanizing a group of your employees to run a toy drive for BGCSF, we bet you can think of a new way to make a difference.

Check out our events calendar, too.

Volunteer

Our Clubs are in need of tutors, homework helpers, games room attendants and sports enthusiasts. But we are also always looking for volunteers with special skills related to fine arts, crafts, dance, music, computer technology and more. If you have a special skill or interest that matches our listed needs, we are waiting to hear from you!  Please click on this link to view our current volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Commitment

Generally, we need volunteers who are able to commit to one or two hours per week, for at least a quarter of programming.  Some short-term projects and single-event opportunities do occasionally arise. If you can't make a long-term, regular commitment, you may still want to consider engaging through Corporate Group volunteering or through our Friends Group.

Volunteer Opportunities

Opportunities are available at all of our Clubs, as well as our administrative offices; however, the volunteer needs at each location vary. The times of greatest need for volunteers are weekdays during the middle-to-late afternoon hours. Fewer volunteers are needed in the early evening. Please click on this link to view our current volunteer opportunities.

Steps to volunteer are easy as 1, 2, 3, 4...

Adults (18+) interested in volunteering with BGCSF must complete an easy four step process.  Youth (ages 14 to 17) interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact their local Clubhouse to learn how they can get involved.  For locations near you, click here.

Step 1: SELECT a volunteer opportunity that matches your interest(s) AND your availability.

Step 2: COMPLETE our online volunteer application.
(Note: the application approval process can take anywhere from 8-10 business days)

Step 3: Once your application is approved, you will then be invited to attend a Volunteer ORIENTATION and a Club tour.

Step 4: The last step in this process will be to schedule and complete a LIVE SCAN fingerprinting.  The cost is $35 - $40.  Financial assistance from BGCSF may be available for those in need.

Note: The BGCSF volunteer registration process may take one to two months to complete in full, depending on how soon steps are completed by volunteer candidates.  Our kids and staff are eagerly awaiting your support!

Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact our Volunteer & Corporate Outreach Manager Erica Pérez at (415) 445-5482 or eperez@kidsclub.org

The Friends of BGCSF

The Friends of BGCSF are a group of young professionals invested in supporting the youth of our community by advocating for BGCSF through volunteering, fundraising, and social networking.  They organize unique social and volunteer events throughout the year. These events provide an opportunity for new volunteers to interact with the members of BGCSF’s nine Clubhouses while raising awareness of the Club’s programs and services, as well as raising money to help support our youth programs

What brings the Friends together is a common commitment to giving back to the community, and connecting with like-minded peers over a cause that makes San Francisco a better place to live.

Boys Night Out & Girls Night Out

Make a difference, one kid at a time! Boys Night Out & Girls Night Out is the Friends’ annual signature volunteer event. Each year, they recruit over 200 people to be a "Big Buddy" for two events filled with lighthearted competition, games, food and prizes. These truly special events have become much-anticipated favorites of our Club members. It's a great opportunity for our kids to interact with a caring, responsible adult from their own community or beyond—someone who just might inspire them to think about their future and dream big.

BGCSF would like to thank the volunteers who made this year's BNO/GNO events so wonderful!!

Club Connection Events

The Friends group organizes quarterly Club Connection events throughout the year to interact with Club members in meaningful and fun ways. Events are organized in the late afternoon to early evenings Monday through Friday.  Volunteers are recruited to work on crafts projects, play games, and generally pal around with the kids. It’s a treat for our Club members to get some extra attention, and it’s always a very rewarding experience for the volunteers.

Fundraising and Networking Events

The Friends group organizes two fundraising events during the year to raise money for important BGCSF programs. Please check back for updates  on upcoming events, or join our Friends Facebook page to be notified about these events.

The Friends also organizes adult mixers and social events where you can learn more about BGCSF and connect with other adults interested in supporting youth in our community. One popular endeavor is our Camp Mendocino Fix-It Weekend, held at our 2,000-acre residential summer Camp in Mendocino County. Over a spring weekend, a group tackles a small repair job, helping the Camp staff prepare for the summer influx of kids while having a whole lot of fun!

Become a Friend

We welcome new voices and energy! We invite you to learn more by attending one of our Friends Committee Meetings or attending one of our events.

To RSVP for the next meeting, or for more information about how you can get involved, contact Erica Pérez at (415) 445-5482 or eperez@kidsclub.org.
