It is with a heavy heart that Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco announces the passing of Marty Bohlen on Sunday, October 11.
Marty was known by thousands of staff and tens of thousands of kids as Camp Mendocino's Head Cook each summer for 30 years. To others, he was also known for his leadership of the Purple Kumquat volunteer group, including cooking for all the work weekends. To some, he was also known as a Trustee of the Bud Karp Trust that has supported Camp with almost $1m over the past 20+ years, sending kids to Camp on scholarships and investing in capital projects. To others, he was also known as a 50-year Board member for the Club. He gave of his time and culinary talent with no fanfare or hubris. He left his Board hat at the gate to Camp and served instead as a member of the staff team, volunteering to fill a critically important job year after year for three decades. Marty was loved and admired for his service, his work ethic, and his kindness to staff, kids, and fellow volunteers.
BGCSF sends its condolences to Marty's family. Camp Mendocino was extremely lucky to have Marty as a friend and a loyal supporter. Cheers to a life well lived.

For decades, Jack was a leader on the Board of Governors for BGCSF, including serving as Board Chair. Jack was honored by the Club in 2018 for a legacy of excellent service to BGCSF and was also past president of The Guardsmen and the Bohemian Club.
A new school year is officially here and our Clubs are ready to make it unforgettable! As school gets back into full swing, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) is packed with fresh routines, strong friendships, and big goals.
As another summer at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) comes to a close, our members' energy and enthusiasm remain as strong as ever. With Clubhouses open all day, summer gives young people a welcome break from academic pressures and the chance to experience joy, exploration, self-discovery, and connection. Through enriching programs, real-world experiences, and caring mentorship, youth explored new interests, discovered their strengths, built skills and lasting relationships with peers and trusted adults who make our Clubhouses and Camp Mendocino feel like second homes.
