I am proud to work for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), an organization that continuously innovates and evolves to address the needs of our community. I am writing this blog post to share an important opportunity and to ask for your support in spreading the word!
BGCSF is currently offering free support and training to Black-serving and Black-led individuals and organizations participating in The Dream Keeper Initiative, a citywide effort launched in 2021 to reinvest $120 million over two years into San Francisco’s diverse Black communities. Utilizing our expertise as a 132-year old community-based organization in San Francisco, BGCSF is uniquely positioned to help small or developing nonprofits build their capacity to become strong, stable, and effective organizations.
BGCSF enthusiastically supports this initiative and we are thrilled to be a partner organization. We are offering Black-serving and Black-led community-based organizations and nonprofits technical assistance and capacity-building support and guidance in the following areas:
In order to receive free support and training, please complete this brief questionnaire and we will follow-up directly. If you know of organizations that could benefit from this opportunity, please encourage them to reach out to us to avail themselves of this free service.
I hope that you will take the time to learn more about the Dream Keeper Initiative. Please help us spread the word about this important opportunity as well as how BGCSF can assist participants!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at gbarrett@kidsclub.org.
At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Every day, our staff focus on creating safe spaces, meaningful relationships, and high-quality programs that help youth thrive. While we are not experts in areas such as immigration, food security, or healthcare, we understand that challenges such as this affect many families we serve. To help connect families with reliable sources of information and support, we’ve compiled a list of suggested community resources to investigate further.
This week, our Citywide Youth of the Year, Elda, competed in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 2025 National Youth of the Year competition in Los Angeles. While she did not take home the national title, Elda’s recognition as one of six finalists nationwide is an incredible achievement and a testament to her determination, leadership, and the support of her community.
In a time marked by division, growing uncertainty, and financial instability, the families we serve are carrying a lot—and so are young people. From global conflict, political tensions, natural disasters, government funding cuts, and immigration enforcement, the emotional weight of the moment is real for families and communities. Kids are absorbing it, often without the tools to understand or express what they’re feeling. That’s why spaces like Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) are more important than ever.
