By Jennifer Snyder, Director of Development and Martha Lopez, Volunteer and Corporate Engagement Manager
This week is National Volunteer Week and we want to take the opportunity to extend a huge thank you to the many groups and individuals who make it a priority to contribute their time and talents in service to Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF). Volunteers are vital to our organization’s success and we could not be more appreciative of their sustained commitment in support of San Francisco youth.
I recently sat down with our Volunteer & Corporate Engagement Manager, Martha Lopez, and asked her to share some information about the volunteer program, who our volunteers are, and how people can get involved.

Volunteers are a valuable resource to BGCSF! Individuals and groups spend time volunteering in our Clubs, providing mentorship and inspiration, helping our Club members develop essential life skills. Whether assisting with homework, leading creative activities, or simply offering a supportive presence, volunteers are instrumental in empowering our Club members to reach their full potential. Our volunteers help support essential programs, such as Academic Support, Behavioral Health Services, Sports, Fitness, & Play, Youth Leadership & Workforce Development, & much more.

Our incredible volunteers support our Clubs as both individuals and groups across all our Clubhouse locations and up at Camp Mendocino!
We are deeply appreciative of our corporate groups from companies such as McKinsey & Company, Charles Schwab & Co., and Old Navy, among many others.
Partner Highlight:
McKinsey & Company has been a steadfast supporter of BGCSF since 2011. McKinsey’s commitment to partnering with BGCSF has been showcased through many activations and levels of support throughout the year. Notably, McKinsey interns supported programming at our Mission Clubhouse during their annual Day of Service, and the firm also provided pro-bono consulting services in support of our strategic planning process. We are especially grateful to McKinsey for their ongoing leadership on our Board of Governors and our NextGen Leadership Council.

To become a volunteer at BGCSF, you can sign-up for an in-person volunteer orientation. During the volunteer orientation, you will learn more about our organization and what volunteer opportunities are available. You'll need to fill out an application, undergo a background check, and attend any required training sessions before you can start volunteering with the organization.
At BGCSF one of our core values is Youth First, and I love having the opportunity to connect individual and group volunteers and connect them to our Clubhouses to support the youth of San Francisco.

A letter of gratitude from BGCSF President, Rob Connolly, to all supporters.
At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Every day, our staff focus on creating safe spaces, meaningful relationships, and high-quality programs that help youth thrive. While we are not experts in areas such as immigration, food security, or healthcare, we understand that challenges such as this affect many families we serve. To help connect families with reliable sources of information and support, we’ve compiled a list of suggested community resources to investigate further.
This week, our Citywide Youth of the Year, Elda, competed in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 2025 National Youth of the Year competition in Los Angeles. While she did not take home the national title, Elda’s recognition as one of six finalists nationwide is an incredible achievement and a testament to her determination, leadership, and the support of her community.
