At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our Healthy Lifestyles programs help youth build lifelong habits that support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Sports play a powerful role in that work—building confidence, connection, and opportunity for young people across our Clubs.

At the heart of this work is our belief that access to sports is about more than competition. It’s about confidence, leadership, and creating spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to try something new.

This fall, we reached an exciting milestone as we leaned more intentionally into girls’ sports across our Clubs. One partnership that truly shines is our collaboration with Bay FC, Visa, and Street Soccer USA, which is helping expand access to soccer for elementary and middle school girls across San Francisco.

The momentum began in August, when Bay FC and Visa announced the launch of a new all-girls youth soccer league in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco. The announcement reflected a shared commitment to ensuring girls, particularly those in neighborhoods historically underrepresented in organized sports, have meaningful opportunities to play, compete, and grow through sport.

Watch SF Mayor Daniel Lurie and our President Rob Connolly discuss the new partnership and all-girls league.

That excitement carried through the fall and culminated on Saturday, December 13, when more than 40 girls from BGCSF Clubhouses across the city came together for Bay FC’s first end-of-year All-Girls Tournament at Visa Street Soccer Park. Girls from multiple Clubs showed up ready to play, cheer one another on, and celebrate what it means to take the field together.

Seeing so many of our members engaged and excited—across locations and neighborhoods—was a powerful reminder of why this work matters. When girls have access to high-quality programs, inspiring role models, and supportive partnerships, the impact reaches far beyond the field.

We’re deeply grateful to our partners at Bay FC, Visa, and Street Soccer USA for helping make moments like this possible. Their investment, collaboration, and shared belief in the potential of girls’ sports are helping create pathways that will last well beyond a single event.

As we look ahead, we’re excited for what’s next. The new all-girls soccer league is set to launch in Spring 2026, and this fall’s momentum is just the beginning. More opportunities, more partnerships, and more ways for girls to build confidence and leadership through sports are on the horizon.

More to come—and we can’t wait to share what’s next. Stay tuned.

Community Resources

At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Every day, our staff focus on creating safe spaces, meaningful relationships, and high-quality programs that help youth thrive. While we are not experts in areas such as immigration, food security, or healthcare, we understand that challenges such as this affect many families we serve. To help connect families with reliable sources of information and support, we’ve compiled a list of suggested community resources to investigate further.

Celebrating Elda, Our National Youth of the Year Finalist

This week, our Citywide Youth of the Year, Elda, competed in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 2025 National Youth of the Year competition in Los Angeles. While she did not take home the national title, Elda’s recognition as one of six finalists nationwide is an incredible achievement and a testament to her determination, leadership, and the support of her community.
