At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, our mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Every day, our staff focus on creating safe spaces, meaningful relationships, and high-quality programs that help youth thrive.

While we are not experts in areas such as immigration, food security, or healthcare, we understand that challenges such as this affect many families we serve. To help connect families with reliable sources of information and support, we’ve compiled a list of suggested community resources to investigate further.

Having one central place to share resources, rather than offering individual advice, ensures that we provide consistent information while staying focused on what we do best: empowering youth to build bright, successful futures.

CalFresh (SNAP)

CalFresh Emergency Aid
San Francisco Human Services Agency
CalFresh benefits will be delayed in November due to the shutdown. SFHSA will distribute a one-time, prepaid grocery card to CalFresh households. CalFresh households will receive a letter from SFHSA about how to access their card, which will include a unique activation code. Letters will be sent in the first week of November.

CalFresh clients will be able to access their card as a virtual card immediately or request a physical card in the mail, which will arrive in three to seven business days.

Clients do not need to contact SFHSA to request or receive this support.

Celebrating Elda, Our National Youth of the Year Finalist

This week, our Citywide Youth of the Year, Elda, competed in Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 2025 National Youth of the Year competition in Los Angeles. While she did not take home the national title, Elda’s recognition as one of six finalists nationwide is an incredible achievement and a testament to her determination, leadership, and the support of her community.

Beyond the Headlines: A Long-Term Commitment to Supporting the Health and Wellbeing of Youth

In a time marked by division, growing uncertainty, and financial instability, the families we serve are carrying a lot—and so are young people. From global conflict, political tensions, natural disasters, government funding cuts, and immigration enforcement, the emotional weight of the moment is real for families and communities. Kids are absorbing it, often without the tools to understand or express what they’re feeling. That’s why spaces like Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) are more important than ever.

Summer Update from BGCSF!

At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF), we believe all children and teens deserve access to opportunity. Throughout the year, we work intentionally to connect youth to experiences that might otherwise be out of reach. Summer, in particular, allows our Clubs to be open all day, giving us more time to offer enriching programs, field trips, and new experiences that spark curiosity and growth. These opportunities expand perceptions of what’s possible, boost confidence, and help kids dream bigger.
